Tomorow, I will be traveling to London to debate the following proposition:<\/p>\n

“The Trudeau government’s decision to award Omar Khadr a $10.5m settlement in July 2017 was an error in law and policy.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

My opponent will be Rob De Luca, counsel for the Canadian Civil Liberties Association. I will take the position that the settlement was based on a misapplication of the law (though I don’t know if I will have anything to say about the wisdom of the policy behind the settlement), while Mr. De Luca will oppose the proposition.<\/p>\n

The debate is being held at the University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Law, Room 44 at 12:00 p.m. I encourage anyone interested who lives in the London area to come down.<\/p>\n

Many thanks to the Runnymede Society for hosting this debate and inviting me to participate. As you may recall, I previously wrote about the legal issues surrounding the settlement in a brief article here<\/a>, and I anticipate that I will be fleshing out some of these points a bit more tomorrow.<\/p>\n
